Wheeling Firefighters responded to 645 Main St. early Sunday morning for a report of a structure fire with a woman and new born baby trapped on the top floor. Engines 2, 5, and 9, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Squad 2, C-2, C-1 responded. Rescue 1 arrived on scene in moments and reported it was a 2 story brick structure (middle of the row) with exposures on both sides and that they were gaining entry for rescue. Engine 2 arrived on scene as the first due engine and backed up Rescue 1 with the line. Engine 5 backed up Engine 2. Ladder 1 took the hydrant for Engine 2 and vented the structure. The occupants all got out safely and were transported to local and regional hospitals. Crews knocked down the fire on the top floor and found no fire extension.

Friday morning fire crews were called to Elm Grove United Methodist Church for a report of smoke inside of their building. Engines 11 and 10, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, C-4 responded. Ladder 1 setup its ladder and crews checked the air units on the roof. Nothing was found.

A full response was sent to 18th St. for a report of the smell of smoke inside a structure on Thursday evening. Engines 2 and 4, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and C-2 responded. Crews checked the main area where the odor was and gained access to the roof to check further with a thermal imagining camera. No smoke or fire was found.

Wheeling fire crews were called to Oglebay Wilson Lodge on Monday for a report of a fire in the boiler. Companies arrived on scene and reported that the fire was out. C-3 cleared all companies except for Engine 10. Units that responded were Engines 10 and 2, Rescue 1, Ladder 1, C-3.

Wheeling Firefighters were called to the Golden Chopstitcks Chinese Restaurant on Wheeling Island Saturday, for a report of an electrical fire inside a structure. Engine 5 responded first due and arrived on scene and foundĀ the basement charged with smoke. The fire was out upon arrival. Fire crews vented the building and cleared.
Units on scene: Engines 5 and 2, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, C-3, C-8.

Sunday, March 21st, 2010
Wheeling Firefighters were called to Eagle Ave. in North Park on Sunday evening for a report of a vehicle into a structure. Units arrived on scene and Assistant Chief Harto C-4 reported there was a structural damage to a vacant apartment unit due to a vehicle striking it. Units dispatched were Rescue 1, Engine 5, Engine 2 and C-4. Engine 5 was cleared upon arrival and the rest of the units stood by with the WPD. There were no injuries.

Crews from the Wheeling Fire Department were called to I-470 Eastbound between the Rt. 2 interchange and the Bethlehem exit for a report of a motor vehicle accident. Engine 2 arrived on scene to find a one vehicle wrecked into the median. Engine 2 reported they could handle and they waited until the car was towed.

Companies from the Wheeling Fire Department responded to an apartment at 3rd and Main Street for a possible structure fire. Engine 2 arrived on scene with Squad 1 and found a grease fire that was out upon arrival. Units assigned to the call were Engines 2 and 5, Rescue 1, Ladder 1, Squad 1 and C-2. Engine 5 and Ladder 1 were cleared and Engine 2, Rescue 1, Squad 1 handled the call.

Wheeling Firefighters from C Platoon were called to a residence in South Wheeling for a report of a structure fire. C-4 called for the 10-96 and made the incident “All hands working.” Units on the scene: Engines 4, 2 and 5, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, C-4, C-1. The fire occurred in South Wheeling on Saturday, March 27, 2010.

On Sunday, Wheeling firefighters were called to a residence in Woodsdale for a report of a house filled with smoke. Engine 10 arrived on scene in less than a minute and reported “smoke showing” on arrival. Engine 10′s crew masked up and went in to investigate and found a small cooking fire that had been extinguished prior to their arrival by the resident. Engine 10 relayed to Duty Chief C-3 that they could handle and the full assignment was called off. Engine 10 vented the structure and cleared. There were no injures.
