Charleston, WV Firefighters Injured During Rescue

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A man and two firefighters were taken to the hospital after a house fire in Kanawha City.
Kanawha County 911 dispatchers said an elderly man had to be pulled from the second story of his home at 5200 Kanawha Ave. after a fire broke out there just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
The man, who has not been identified, reported the fire and said he was trapped inside, dispatchers said. Emergency responders found him holding his head out of a second-floor window.
Charleston firefighters were able to get him out quickly, and he was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Hospital with unknown injuries.
Dispatchers said at least two firefighters also were transported to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries also was not known Sunday night.
Firefighters said the blaze was in the basement when they arrived, but then spread to the first floor of the home. At one point, firefighters were ordered to evacuate the basement.
The fire still was burning after midnight.

IAFF Local 12 Steak Fry

The IAFF Local 12 Wheeling Firefighters will be having a steak fry Friday, September 25, 2009 at the El tor Gratto in Fulton. Tickets are $20. It begins at 5pm, beer and soft drinks provided, bring your own place setting. The Train Jumpers will play 8pm.

Professional FireFighters of West Virginia – 2009 Annual Convention

On Thursday May 14, Professional Firefighters from around the state of West Virginia gathered at the Wheeling Island Hotel and Gaming Center for the Professional Fire Fighters of West Virginia 2009 Annual Convention. The opening ceremonies included the Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Memorial Pipe and Drum Band from IAFF Local 1. The conference was hosted by the IAFF Local 12 Wheeling Firefighters.
